I wondered why. The hymn goes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Almighty Father of all things that be,<br \/>\nour life, our work, we consecrate to thee,<br \/>\nwhose heavens declare thy glory from above,<br \/>\nwhose earth below is witness to thy love.<\/p>\n<p>For well we know this weary, soiled earth<br \/>\nis yet thine own by right of its new birth,<br \/>\nsince that great cross upreared on Calvary<br \/>\nredeemed it from its fault and shame to thee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thine still the changeful beauty of the hills,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> the purple valleys flecked with silver rills,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> the ocean glistening &#8216;neath the golden rays;<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> they all are thine, and voiceless speak thy praise.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thou dost the strength to workman&#8217;s arm impart;<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> from thee the skilled musician&#8217; mystic art,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> the grace of poet&#8217;s pen or painter&#8217;s hand,<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> to teach the loveliness of sea and land.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Then grant us, Lord, in all things thee to own,<br \/>\nto dwell within the shadow of thy throne,<br \/>\nto speak and work, to think, and live, and move,<br \/>\nreflecting thine own nature, which is love:<\/p>\n<p>that so, by Christ redeemed from sin and shame,<br \/>\nand hallowed by thy Spirit&#8217;s cleansing flame,<br \/>\nourselves, our work, and all our powers may be<br \/>\na sacrifice acceptable to thee.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[Author: Earnest Edward Dugmore (1843-1925): <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smallchurchmusic3.com\/Lyrics\/D00\/S00628.php\">SOURCE<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>The verses missed out are in bold.<\/p>\n<p>It is a regrettable that these verses were passed over. The first speaks to God&#8217;s beautiful Creation that signs the praise of God. The second to God&#8217;s guidance of human work for the appreciation of God&#8217;s gifts.<\/p>\n<p>For me they speak of the importance of the re-enchantment of creation and the work of human hands.
